On May 12, 2016, fifty children age between 5 and 15 participated in various activities in the Nucleus-of-Light of Figueira in São Paulo – the Sacred House of Mary, the Mother of São Paulo, located in the city of Carapicuíba, metropolitan region of São Paulo, Brazil. In 2015, thirty-one volunteers worked with 98 children.

The routine of every Thursday in the Nucleus-of-Light has been the same for the last five years, when the children from the Vila Tornato (a neighborhood of Carapicuíba) come in the extra-curricular shift. This week, fourteen volunteers of the Network-of-Light of São Paulo participated in the activities with the children during the whole afternoon.

The children had guitar and yoga classes, picked fruits from the orchard, drew and painted mandalas, played with cubes and rolled on the grass. Some of them also participated in activities of maintenance of the Nucleus-of-Light, together with the volunteer that is responsible for this task. At the snack-break, there was a lot of fruit, such as tangerine, guava and watermelon, besides bread with banana sweet and guava sweet made by volunteers.

The group also sang and prayed with sister Missena, a nun of the Grace Mercy Order.
‘The work conducted in the Nucleus-of-Light has the power of Our Mother Mary that heals and protects us. The synchronicity is great: when a volunteer needs to be absent another one soon comes and the task is resumed’, said Cláudia Rimini, a volunteer with the Nucleus-of-Light of Figueira in São Paulo, Sacred House of Mary, the Mother of São Paulo.

Besides the activities conducted in the Nucleus-of-Light, the group of the Network-of-Light of São Paulo also pays home visits to the families of the children and take donations received from the groups of prayer and friends.
‘The children open the doors for us to work with their families. We have the presence of some mothers on Thursdays who are received with a work of loving listening’, said Cláudia.
