Two dentists, collaborators of the House Light on the Hills and of the Community–of-Light Figueira, both affiliated to Fraternidade – International Humanitarian Federation, offer their services, free of charge, to the poor population of Carmo da Cachoeira city, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Such professionals live in the Boa Vista city, Roraima, Brazil, and offered their cooperation during their stay in the House of Light on the Hill.
Vera Lucia Noronha de Oliveira and Fabricio Noronha Praxedes, mother and son, have been part of the Network-of-Light Group of Boa Vista city for many years and are accostumed to participate in the tasks of the House Light on the Hills and of the Community-of-Light Figueira.
“Every single time I come with my son Fabricio, we render some dental services to the community of Carmo da Cachoeira and to the members of the Community-of-Light Figueira. This interaction is a very rewarding experience, specially when we can solve some problems that we are able to “, Vera said.
The professional noticed that exists, in the region, a great need in the oral health area: “while making the curative and preventive treatments, we take the opportunity of educating, both children and adults, on the care of oral hygiene that is fundamental and part of general health “.
She said the adults mainly showed cases of lost teeth or in need of great restorations. “We tried to recover the most as possible”, said. “ As to children, we found a high rate of tooth decays and provided them with some basic prevention guidelines to try to reduce this level”, she carried on.
The dentists were lodged for 12 days in the House Light on the Hills and during this period, several days were dedicated to the service of the community. Totalizing, 35 people were attended and 144 procedures were performed.
