“Power must be born in your inner core and pervade your work” – The Voice of Amhaj (By Trigueirinho)

The Youth Campaign for Peace of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, organized a “Culinary Workshop” on November 24, 2018. The group offered a practical class on how to make homebread.

“During the workshop, I felt joy and peace. Concentrating on kneading the bread dough, doing work with my hands and fixing food was like therapy. I perceived it was like an opportunity of service and I felt like learning to make more food in a group, with people who also seek to serve God and who do not feed on animal suffering”, reported Fernanda de Sá, also referring to the vegan nutrition proposed by the campaign.

The activity began with a prayer and a brief explanation of spiritual symbolism of bread.

Every activity connected with the Youth Campaign for Peace has a spiritual purpose. The idea is that action be consciously done, seeking inner connection. Each one expresses this state in a different manner: with joy, fraternity, attention, silence, etc. Disinterested and loving action conducted while making bread, for example, benefits both the one who makes it and the one who eats the food, beyond nutritional effects.

Artisanal making of bread is literally an opportunity to get their hands busy with dough. The hands can be channels of expression of heart energy. “Heart”, in this context, is a symbol of a high level of consciousness.

Fernanda, who had in the event her first contact with the campaign in Belo Horizonte, also commented, “Knowing that wheat absorbs solar energy in a special way and to know that we put in bread the heart energy made me have the notion of how wonderful was this opportunity of serving, of praying and of persevering on the Path of Light”.

Bread is a popular food that has sustained a large part of humanity for thousands of years. Master Jesus himself used the image of bread to refer to the Christic state of consciousness: “I am the Bread of Life” (John, 6:48). And the sacrament of communion uses bread as a key symbol of the ceremony.

In the end, young people tasted the result of the workshop in a collective snack. The group, glad about the experience, is already planning other culinary workshops soon.
