Practice of Service and Fraternity for needy families in São Carlos
On June 3, 2018, the Network-of-Light group of Sao Carlos gathered for a practice of service and fraternity together with the Nucleus Rosa de Nazareth, an assistance entity that renders communitarian services to needy families in the neighborhood of Antenor Garcia, in Sao Carlos, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
With the support of the Monastery of Transfiguration, of Grace Mercy Order, this activity also had the participation of the Network-of-Light of Jau, as well as residents and collaborators of the Nucleus-of-Light of Figueira in Sao Carlos, integrating the offering of this activity to the growing network of service developed by the group in several cities in that region of the state of Sao Paulo.
Educational and recreational activities
The community that was visited is located in the periphery of Sao Carlos, and shows a situation of structural and social needs, and this situation is mainly reflected in the children and youths of the community. In this scenario, the Nucleus Rosa de Nazaré offers educational and recreational activities to children and is frequented by local families who seek the support that this work grants.
About 50 people participated in this meeting, including a majority of youngsters from 6 to 17 of age. All of them integrated harmoniously in the activity of the meeting, which began with prayers and canticles, then had artistic activities with those present. While the youngest ones participated in paintings, the youths were invited to elaborate calendars of recycled material. This workshop highlights the value of the reutilization and recycling of materials and also allows the development of abilities that can help the youths in the future. Then, the whole group participate in playful activities and games, closing the meeting with a vegetarian lunch served to all those present.
“It is very edifying to perceive with what simplicity we open our hearts: it is just a matter of offering pencil and paper and everything manifests”, says sister Maria de Nazaré, a nun of the Monastery of the Transfiguration (of Grace Mercy Order).
This activity in the neighborhood of Antenor Garcia is supported by the Network-of-Light three times a month.
