When a human creature awakens
When a human creature awakens to cooperate with evolution, it crosses the first portal, beyond which the soul and the personality must work together. So it leaves behind the phases it had been going through in its normal rhythm in the common life, a more slow one. It decides, then, to take up the task of mastering its mind and its free-will; it musters all its energies, because, in case it does not do it, certain aspects of the mind will never be able to concentrate in the evolutionary goal and will continue, whenever possible, to devastate.
The beginning of a new cycle
This means the beginning of a new cycle. On this path, the being can count on the help of its more conscious part (that is, the Instructor), who had always been present, but remaining in the backstage and, to a certain extent, imperceptible.
In this new phase, the reflections about the correct hits, the mistakes and the tests makes the soul perceptive after a long period of blindness and ignorance in which they superficially lived striking facts that could be more well elaborated. Just to see them pass, without any consideration regarding them would imply, at this point, to fail to develop a series of potentials.
Tendencies of thought – “place of peace”
Selfishness, criticism, cruelty and the tendency to gab equal the aspects of this mind that give birth to the concepts, to the theories and the more concrete and obvious ideas of the human being, especially those which fit and adjust with the prevailing mentality in organized society. These tendencies of thought, which exist in all of us and correspond to mental aspects that imply separateness, devastation and criticism, are subject to transmutation and development when inspired by the “place of peace” – where they must be taken.
The higher mind
During continuous epochs, thought was loose: the mind was cruel and devastating as it did not have contact yet with the pacific place that exists beyond it, the place of wisdom. It led the human beings to first devastate their physical body with inadequate habits and then the sacred earthly Nature. It led them to devastate their relationships especially by means of gab. Nevertheless, the higher mind, with its thorough, inclusive and loving view, is more potent than the power of separateness and of judgment.
The power of one’s own decision
To stop this mind that criticizes, that has its own ideas and theories, that is laden with prejudices and transfer it to another level, making it capture the higher thought, the energy of the soul, using for this the power of one’s own decision – here is the Herculean task to be undertaken by the one who joins the path.
The aspirant must not, nevertheless, be deluded by thinking in a hasty way that, upon rising the mind to another level, the work is ready. The process of capture of the mind is long and full of turbulence. In order for selfishness to be tamed completely, a long time is necessary, as well as work and vigilance. Even more time is needed for it to be sublimated on the superconscious planes.
In the silence of the meeting with the Overself
Other parts of the being, with new possibilities, need to be included in the process now. When they join the path, the being perceives by means of the events that actions without the collaboration of the energies of the soul are not the most viable ones in their evolutionary stage. Thus, little by little, the mind develops, learning what is necessary not through reason any longer, but through the intuition that is revealed in the silence of the meeting with the Overself.
