New perspectives

Although service activities – such as donation of foods, personal items and other products – have been occurring since 2014 for the needy community of Morrinhos 4, located in Guaruja, São Paulo, an outdoor recreational activity for the children of the place had never happened before, due to the unstable and violent sector where they live. But with the creation of the Sacred Room of Christic Charity, which took place in May 2018, stemming from a joint action of volunteers of the Networks-of-Light of Guaruja and of Sao Paulo, it was possible to count on an adequate place, and, therefore, the necessary conditions to develop a work in which the children of that community could express themselves.

The gymkhana took place on October 20, during the whole afternoon, and had the participation of more than 80 children, assisted by five members of the Network-of-Light of Guaruja, five members of the Network-of-Light of Santos and two volunteers of the group of São Paulo.

“I became impressed at the children: very tender, obedient and well-behaved. Children in need of talk, of care. All of those with whom I talked are at school. Beautiful. They were very happy!”, said the volunteer Erika Melo.

During the whole afternoon, there were recreational activities with ball pool, elastic bed, games, painting and playful activities with the children. Also a frugal snack (bananas and apples) was offered, plus sodas, popcorn and cotton candy.

“Our proposal is to bring something beyond the material level, and, with the materialization of such a special day, dedicated to leisure, it was not different, as we could perceive the work carried out by the Angels by means of the games and the moments of relaxation offered to those children. We felt that those situations helped erase scars and pains of these little hearts”, said Wanderley Américo, a member of the Network-of-Light of Guaruja.

Besides the service in behalf of the children, the gymkhana allowed to strengthen ties with the community.

“It was a very special afternoon, not only for the service, but also for all smiles and expression of happiness that we lived with them”, explained Rosi Freitas, the coordinator of the Network-of-Light of São Paulo.
