Leticia Pimenta is a collaborator of the Network-of-Light of Mato Grosso, state of the Central-West region of Brazil. Five days a week, after leaving her work in the city of Cuiaba, capital of the state, her destiny is not her home, where she lives with her husband and children, but rather one of five institutions that she supports, one for each working day.

Activities in the Network-of-Light

The collaborator joined the Network-of-Light in 2012, and used to participate in meetings of prayer with the group every 14 days. Today, the meetings of prayer of the Network-of-Light of Mato Grosso are held at her home with the participation of seven people.

Service and selfless action

In 2013, she realized that prayer was not enough, there had to be a greater Project. This is when she got in touch with a social project of donation of soup, in which she participated and collaborated for four years, until the activities of the program were closed. From that time on she resolved to create her own projects of humanitarian actions.

Visits to institutions

Currently 220 people are attended by the collaborator every week, at institutions with different profiles, such as homes for the Elderly, orphanages, and shelters for children and sick adults. In the places she visits, she distributes gesture of attention and care, always accompanied by a little snack (cake, ice cream). The children, the sick and the elderly become extremely happy with her dedication, care and love.

Full agenda

The beginning of the week is dedicated to the Orfanato Projeto Nossa Casa (Orphanage Project Our Home), where 14 adolescents from ten to 14 years old stay, victims of crimes perpetrated by their parents.

On Tuesday, the activity is in the Associação de Amigos da Criança com Câncer de Mato Grosso (Association of Friends of Children with Cancer of Matto Grosso – AACCMT). On the following day, Letícia participates in the weekly prayer with the group of the Network-of-Light and then goes to the city shelter, where she gives a lecture of self-help based on Biblical impulses and on the Messages of Mary, of Christ and of Saint Joseph. She also interacts with people through recreational activities.

The Home for Elderly People is visited every Thursday. A moment to listen, to take care, to give hugs. At each handshake there is always an affirmation: Peace of Christ!

On Friday, the visit is on the Casa da Mãe Joana (Home of Mother Joan), a shelter for 14 people who live with HIV. There also a dialog is established, she presents the spiritual impulses that she had taken to the city shelter and also ends the meeting with a little snack.

“All these entities lack care, love and attention. People are abandoned. Only 5 % of those attended receive visits from their parents, and the seropositive are the most marginalized”, explains Letícia.

On the weekends, she prepares the lectures for the following week, without repeating the impulses already worked on. All the snack offered is acquired with her own resources. She makes a point to reserve the amount of a minimum wage for these activities.

“With a lot of joy and lots of gratitude that I have for God. It is a joy to be able to obtain smiles for God. The smile that I get here from a sick person, it is not easy to make a sick person, a blind person laugh and become happy, I get it for God”.

Participation in a contest

Recently Leticia participated in a contest that is being done to celebrate the 300 years of the city of Cuiaba. The objective is to highlight attitudes of people and projects in the sector of citizenship that give good examples, awakening in the population the awareness of the importance of these attitudes for a more harmonious and respectful co-existence among all. From the 400 hundred people enrolled, Letícia remained among the five finalists, and participated in a TV report that showed her work.

The result of the contest will be informed on September 19.
