They were rescued by people who dedicate themselves to animal protection in the carioca capital.

With support of the Municipality, they reached an agreement with the owners of the horses, who had been utilizing them to pull carts used as transportation of tourists in the island. The local authority replaced the animal-pulled carts, known as ‘mateus’, by electric carts. Thus, those who used to profit by transporting tourists pulled by those horses will not lose the source of their income. This is what reported Mene, responsible for the Park of the Kingdoms.

‘It is about four male horses that came from the state of Rio de Janeiro, and were rescued because they were being used inadequately to pull carts, they had no conditions to endure this task anymore, according to the protectors who rescued them, they were suffering under a slave regime’, said Mene.

These representatives of the Animal Kingdom received the first cares and were castrated in Rio de Janeiro, in a joint action of the group of protectors and the Municipality.
