The group of Missionaries of Peace of the Fraternidade – International Humanitarian Federation made contact today for the first time with Syrian refugees in the city of Gaziantep, South of Turkey and close to the Syrian border. The first meeting was especially with children, in one of the three centers of attendance that ASAM, a Turkish NGO, maintains in this locality.

Gaziantep-MapaThe children face different situations: some of them are with their families, but the majority are only with their mother, or simply alone. All of them receive classes in language, computing, music and sewing. Their families have access to a voucher for buying food and the paying of various services, such as psychological, health and legal assistance, among others. The group of Missionaries of Peace was very cordially welcomed by the Syrian refugees, and received many requests to work especially with the children.

Tomorrow the Missionaries of Peace will go to another place that ASAM (Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants) maintains in Gaziantep. In this city, they will remain for five days. Then they will move on to other four points in Turkey.

These visits take place according to an agreement between the Missionaries of Peace and the NGO of Turkey, after the Missionaries of Peace were denied access to the refugee camps from the government of this country.
