With the theme “The Seed and the Cycles of Life”, the National Meeting of Traditional, Organic and Biodynamic Seeds and Agriculture for Life will be held on Saturday, September 12th, at Light-Community Figueira, in Carmo da Cachoeira (MG). The meeting will bring together farmers, association representatives and other participants interested in sharing knowledge and experiences about seeds and agriculture.
The program covers topics such as traditional seeds, conservation, food security, sustainable agricultural practices, farmer training, and coordination between organizations.
The initiative proposes a space for dialogue, training and exchange of experiences on seed preservation, sustainable agriculture and practices aimed at caring for the land, food production and the continuity of natural cycles.
Seeds and life cycles
The theme of the meeting, “The Seed and the Cycles of Life”, expands the reflection on the role of seeds beyond their agricultural dimension. The seed gathers, in its own trajectory, the continuity of natural cycles: it holds a potential that, when it finds the necessary conditions, germinates, grows, develops and gives rise to new seeds.
In this sense, caring for a seed is also caring for the continuity of life, it is recognizing that each cycle holds within itself the possibility of a new beginning. The reflection proposed by the meeting relates knowledge about seeds to the understanding of the interdependence between living beings and the need for more conscious practices of caring for nature.
Traditional seeds: knowledge and continuity
Traditional seeds preserve knowledge passed down through generations and are related to the agricultural and cultural diversity of the territories. Its conservation involves not only storage, but also the maintenance of knowledge about planting, selection and reproduction, ensuring its continuity throughout agricultural cycles. In this sense, the theme “The Seed and the Cycles of Life” proposes a reflection on the relationship between cultivation and natural processes and highlights the importance of caring for seeds and the knowledge that accompanies them.
Seed diversity also contributes to food security and agricultural systems that are better adapted to the characteristics of each territory. The meeting promotes the exchange of experiences on sustainable practices and soil care, water and biodiversity, in addition to sharing technical knowledge and practical experiences that can contribute to farmers’ autonomy and the strengthening of sustainable agricultural practices. The rapprochement between entities, associations and farmers also favours the circulation of knowledge, the construction of joint actions and the strengthening of initiatives aimed at seed preservation, sustainable agriculture and food security.
