The Nucleus-of-Light of Figueira in Sao Carlos conducted the first music and art workshop for the needy population of the neighborhood of Antenor Garcia. This neighborhood is located in the periphery of the city of Sao Carlos, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.<\/p>\n

The event took place on June 27, 2018, and had the presence of 25 youths, ages between 11 and 21, besides the participation of family members and other neighbors.<\/p>\n

The initiative has the purpose of socially including the participants, as well as the development of artistic skills and the expansion of access to culture and information of the youths. The workshops are coordinated by collaborators of the Nucleus-of-Light of Sao Carlos, under the guidance of the Monastery of Transfiguration, of Grace Mercy Order.<\/p>\n

Artisanship and painting for children<\/p><\/div>\n

After the beginning filled with prayers and songs, the work was split between the students interested in learning the guitar and the children who participated in a workshop of artisanship and painting. The musical\u00a0content included practical exercises thanks to the manifestation of 13 guitars, donated by collaborators of the project. With the donation, the youths could have their first contact with the instrument and play their first notes, under the instruction of the teacher Yago Barros de Souza, a member of the youth group of the region.<\/p>\n

A vegetarian snack concluded the activities for all those present.<\/p>\n

The workshops will be conducted weekly, on Sundays, in the House of Support Sagrada Fam\u00edlia (Sacred Family), near the Nucleus-of-Light of Sao Carlos. The activities are open to the public and free for the community of the neighborhood of Antenor Garcia. Previous register is necessary for the interested families.<\/p>\n
