The third module of the Training Cycle of the Sphere Handbook for members of the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Federation (FIHF) was done on Saturday the 18th, through an online transmission, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) for reducing the risk of contagion and spreading of the Coronavirus.

The Sphere Handbook is an initiative of the Sphere Humanitarian Standards, which seeks to ensure the quality of humanitarian assistance, and involves more than 450 organizations present in about 60 countries. Created in 1997, it establishes a series of principles and patterns that should be followed in humanitarian responses, aiming to be a guide for civilian, governmental, military, and private sector organizations that act together in humanitarian projects, seeking a more just and dignified society.

The course is being organized by the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Missions (FIHF), through the Colombia Mission, in partnership with the Light-Community of Fleur-de-Lys, in Portugal. The people participating are from various countries such as Colombia, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, among others.

According to Anderson, from the coordinating team of the Colombia Mission, there was an average access of 328 online computers, but he adds: “we believe that more than 500 people were connected, since in many families, the members access it together from the same computer.”

The third module addressed the 9 Essential Humanitarian Norms (CHS: Core Humanitarian Standards), that work with  “How?” a humanitarian action should be established and developed. Anderson explains that these Humanitarian Standards “are, in reality, commitments that the organizations have made so that the Humanitarian Response will have a standard of quality, accountability, coordination, and articulation between the protagonists involved. All of this having as a central core, the dignity of life and the participation of the communities and people affected by crises or emergency situations.”

Anderson understands that this training builds technical capabilities so that the performance of the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM) is based on international guidelines worked with in today’s most diverse humanitarian contexts, aligning programs, projects, actions, and discussions to a much broader whole than the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM) itself.
