On March 28, the second stage in the Cycle of Training on the Sphere Handbook was completed. The course was organized by the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM) in partnership with the Light-Community of Fleur-de-Lys, located in Portugal, and in the same way as the first module, it was transmitted online, respecting the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the prevention of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Besides the members of the Light-Community of Fleur-de-Lys and the Colombia Mission, members of the Light-Network of countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Nicaragua, Austria, France, and England were also able to register and participate in the training at a distance.  There were more than 600 people from 17 countries that learned from the Sphere Handbook, a basic guide for humanitarian activity.

“This information is important, as we need to be imbued with this knowledge that is the basis for a humanitarian response, and enables an organization to coordinate with others, generating an integrated and more effective response,” explains Priscilla, missionary of the Fraternity – International Humanitarian Missions (FIHM) and coordinator of the Colombia Mission.

The Sphere Handbook establishes principles and basic norms for humanitarian organizations in the face of conflicts and technical aspects related to some basic lines of action, which are Health, Security, Food and Nutrition, Shelter and WASH (water, hygiene, and basic healing).

Priscila, one of the enablers of the training, explains that the content of the guide, which has more than 600 pages, helps organizations to be more prepared. “Apart from where the mission will be and under what conditions, the  Sphere Handbook has universal norms and standards based on the rights of every human being,” she says.
